Sri Lanka is my favourite country we have visited on our journey. It’s perfect! There’s perfect waves, perfect weather, perfect beaches, perfect music, tasty food, lovely people, great bars on the beach and amazing wildlife.
When we arrived we stayed a night in a hotel near the airport before driving 3 hours south to Mirissa. It was an easy drive because they have recently built a new road that goes all the way from the airport to Mirrisa.
We got to our guest house and the woman who owns it led us straight to our room. It was small but faultless for what we need it for, and it is less than a 2 minute walk from the beach. We got there at 2 o,clock so went down to the beach. There was ok surf so Dad and I went in for a bit and got some good waves, meanwhile Mum and Summer sat in a beach bar watching us and playing games. After only a couple of hours of being in Mirrisa we had all fallen in love with the beautiful place.
The next day Dad and I got a early to go for a surf. It was beautiful watching the sunrise over the sea. I was surprised how many of the locals got up in the dark and started working before some of the tourist had even gone to bed. We surfed for a couple of hours and then met Mum and Summer on the beach for breakfast. We spent the rest of the day on the beach going in and out of the water.
Unfortunately Dad got caught on the reef when he was paddling back in and he got sea urchins in his foot and hand. He spent the rest of the day trying to dig them out so they wouldn’t get infected. There was one left in his foot and one in his hand they he couldn’t get out as they had gone in too deep and when we came back to our room we showed the lady running the place and she said that if you walk up our lane about half a kilometre there is a tree and in the leaves it has a special liquid that draws out the sea urchins. She said it would take about 3 days and Dad needed to put as much on each day. It really burnt but so he’s put it on each morning and evening and after 3 days his hand looks better and his foot is getting there.
The next day we went down to the other end of the beach and we found some great surf it was the best surf I have ever had. While we were sitting out back we saw two turtles in the water next to us. They were about a meter long and looked so gracious. We came in to put some more sun lotion on and have lunch. We surfed for about five hours that day and then went to a beach bar before going out to a restaurant we found down the side street that was amazing food and amazing prices. We all ate and drank incredible food for about Β£7.
Yesterday we went on a super safari. We saw hundreds of elephants and different types of amazing birds and we saw crocodiles and water buffalo. It was an incredible experience seeing all the animals and just driving round the national park was stunning. Summer has written all about it so I won’t say anymore,
So far I love Sri Lanka and I’m already looking forward to coming back here.
