Baltimore aquarium

After going to Fort McHenry, we went to an aquarium which was meant to be the best aquarium in the USA.  We walked through the doors where people were directing us to the start of the aquarium.

The first place we visited was the underwater viewing area where all different fishes were swimming over a fake reef (they couldn’t use a real reef because it would wreck the fishes home in the wild).  There were turtles, sharks, clown fishes, humphead wrasse (that we thought was a fake fish) banggai cardinalfish and lots more.

Next, after being amazed by the wonderful fish, we went up some escalators and went to a rainforest area. When entering the “rainforest” it was hot and also humid. There were lots of birds that were different sizes and  different colours. My favourite bird was the scarlet Ibiz which was a beautiful pinky red colour. There were loads of different trees that were different colours (one was a cocoa tree).

Sadly leaving behind all the tweeting fun, we went to look at some puffins, snakes, different coloured frogs and spiders. We were a bit concerned because we couldn’t find the tarantula in its enclosure until someone reassured us it was hiding in a bit of wood in the back corner.

After all the long time we went to watch my favourite animal (dolphins). We watched them do their amazing tricks and flips in the air and underwater. We were in the splash zone area which meant we could get wet possibly, luckily we were the only side that didn’t get wet but every other side got very wet as the dolphins were flapping their tails. When it was the end of the show the dolphins said good bye to us with there flippers. I found out that dolphin flippers are like a finger print on a human and every dolphins have a different type.

Before the aquarium was going to close we got to touch some jellyfish and stingrays. The jellyfish felt firm and rubbery and the stingrays felt slimy and soft.

And that was the end of our magnificent first day in Baltimore, America.

Summer.

  1. Sounds great Summer – we didn’t know that dolphins each have a different “finger” print! We came across some jellyfish while swimming in the Mediterranean last week and no way would I have touched them!
