Cave of the winds, Niagara Falls

Cave of the winds was my favorite part of our visit to Niagara falls. It was amazing because it was so powerful and you could stand right under it.

After we bought our ticket we were sent to get some special sandals to wear under the falls to keep our normal shoes dry. We then went down 175 feet in an elevator, from the top to the bottom of the falls. We were then given long waterproofs, which were totally useless, to try to keep us dry from the huge clouds of spray produced by the falls. We walked along a wooden path to the foot of the Victoria Falls and we were all astonished by the massive volume of water hitting the rocks.

We then took some photos and walked round admiring the falls from the path. When we got towards the end of the path we had the option to stand under the falls, which was called the hurricane area, and get drenched. We climbed the steps towards the hurricane area and as we got to the top it felt like we were going to get swept away by eminence power of the water. When we stood under the falls it really hurt our ears from the water constantly pounding at the back of then.

  • Cave of the winds was invented in 1844 when Niagara Falls completely froze over and a man explored behind the falls and decided that someone should build a path to view the falls from this place.
  • Each year the people who work for cave of the winds completely knock down the path in the winter and rebuild it in the summer. This is because if they left it up it would get washed away in the winter by the ice coming down the falls.

  1. Great descriptive writing Fin (we assume it is Fin writing). It makes us feel quite cold! We could imagine being there. The facts at the end were very interesting. Thanks again for keeping in touch.
