A surprise day

We woke up early.  We got dressed, had breakfast and were in the car by 7:30. We sped down the coast to Bellena, where we met a guy who was going to tell us about what we were going to do for the next four hours. Michael was our guide for the day and he took us through the National Park to the beach where a boat was waiting for us.

We put all our belongings into a dry bag and were told to keep our hands inside the boat and stay seated at all times.  We set off through the waves.  The first wave was the worst out of all of them.  We got soaking wet as the wave smashed on us.  I even started to get a bit cold at that point!  We went at full speed through the water and after 30 minutes had passed we saw a turtle sun bathing in the sea.  As soon as we got close up, the turtle ducked under the water and swam away.

We  zoomed on through the sea until Michael said that he saw something in front. The children were allowed to stand at the front of the boat and try and spot it. None of the children did but my mum saw it. It was a humpback whale! It blew water through its blow whole in the distance. We decided to get closer and once we did we noticed that it wasn’t just one humpback whale, it was two (there was a mother and a baby). When they came out of the water, they were synchronised, coming out of the water at the exact same time! They were black and so elegant. After a while we lost them. 😦

I saw something coming out of the water so we went over to it and it was loads and loads of dolphins (my favourite animal)! They were beautiful and playful. We knew they were local as they had white spots. They would go in front of us and then disappear and go behind us and then appear next to the boat. They were incredible!

Then suddenly Michael said that he saw something so we left the dolphins to play and went to see what it was. The humpback whales were back and they were so close that it felt like we could touch them. Michael said that they were double the size of the boat we were on which was 16 meters long! Unfortuately, I  was then sick twice from being on the sea in the boat, as it was getting quite choppy!

We decided to leave the beautiful whales and go to have a snorkel. When we got to the snorkel area it was too blurry to see any fish so we just had a swim in the end which was lovely. When we got back on the boat I was sick AGAIN! We then went to an island which had loads of birds on it.

Soon we were at a place that the locals call “Ventanas del Pacifico”, which means “windows of the pacific”, as you can see the ocean through some caves like a window. It was spectacular.  Next to that there were up to about 200 caves in a row! Guess what… I was sick again! We then went back into shore and surfed a wave in and got off the boat. I was happy to be on land.  But it was definitely worth it to see the dolphins and whales.
